Welcome to Preschool 3!
Our classroom is an exciting and welcoming learning environment with an emphasis on developing fine motor skills, social-emotional development, writing, science, number recognition, and letter recognition! Similar to our 2-year-old classroom, we accomplish these tasks using center-based learning, art, and hands-on learning tools. We believe in a healthy balance between school work and play.
Developing Fine Motor Skills
In Preschool 3, we introduce handwriting to your children. We accomplish this by practicing writing but also through fine motor play. You will often find our students:
- Stringing beads
- Lacing
- Using scissors
- Engaging with fine motor tools
These activities help develop your child’s dexterity, making writing much easier in the years to come!
Letter & Number Recognition
We will also start to recognize letters and numbers! Each week, we focus on a specific letter and number. On Fridays, we have Show and Tell, where children bring an item that represents either the letter or number of the week.
This provides a fun opportunity for children to reinforce their learning while sharing their knowledge with classmates!
Social-Emotional Development
The cornerstone of our classroom is social-emotional development. As you know, 3-year-olds are beginning to establish their independence and may test boundaries with friends, teachers, and parents. In our classroom, we focus on helping children understand their actions through guided reflection.
How We Teach Emotional Growth
We ask children thought-provoking questions to encourage self-awareness, such as:
- Why did you hurt your friend?
- Why shouldn’t we do that?
- How do you think that made your friend feel?
These conversations happen on an individual and group basis, depending on the situation. We also communicate social-emotional details on your child’s daily report.
Learning & Having Fun!
In Preschool 3, we love to learn, but we also love to have fun! Our balanced approach ensures that children grow academically while still enjoying the learning process. We look forward to an exciting year with your child!
