Pre-Kindergarten Classroom

The Pre-Kindergarten classroom consists of our 4-year-olds. This classroom is the last stop at Ohana before Kindergarten. In the Pre-K class, everything comes together for our students! We engage children in Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Art.

Our curriculum is specifically designed to cover everything that is on the local elementary school’s Kindergarten entrance exam. We find the best approach is to teach this material in a small group environment. Our method includes:

  • Guided instruction
  • Guided-independent practice
  • Independent practice
  • Hands-on learning tools

Technology in Learning

Our Pre-Kindergarten classroom includes an I-Pad center that enriches our curriculum with educational programs for students ready for independent work.

How We Use I-Pads

  • I-Pads are used to reinforce previously taught concepts.
  • New concepts are not introduced through technology.
  • Technology is a tool, not a dependency.

At Ohana, we believe that familiarity with technology is essential, but it should be used to support long-term memory, not replace traditional learning methods.

Daily Routine & Expectations

In Pre-Kindergarten, we ask that all students arrive no later than 9:00 AM. Our welcome circle time starts at 9 AM, followed by the curriculum. We still have naps in Pre-K, but for students who no longer need them, quiet activities will be provided during nap time.

Performing Arts & Spring Play

Pre-K is a fun and active learning environment! At Ohana, we love to engage our students in the performing arts. Your child will participate in a Spring Play, where they will:

  • Act out parts
  • Sing and dance
  • Create props and scene decorations

Plays are a wonderful way for students to develop memorization skills, creativity, and confidence while engaging both the right and left brain. Plus, they are absolutely adorable! All parents will be invited to watch their children perform.

Supporting the Whole Child

Pre-K is a wonderful year to watch children learn and grow. At Ohana, we believe in supporting the whole student—both academically and behaviorally. We love our 4-year-olds and look forward to preparing them for Kindergarten!
